On August 1, 2005, Tektronix , Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) and SMPTE-HK Section co-organized a seminar on Test and Measurement of High Definition (HD) Audio/Video and related compression technologies. The event was held at the auditorium of IVE’s Sha Tin Campus and there were about 70 participants from the broadcasting, telecommunications, production and post-production sectors in attendance. Mike Waidson, Application Engineer from Tektronix, discussed about HD audio and video test and measurement with illustrations and related technical issues. In addition, Dennis Kucera, MPEG Applications Engineer from Tektronix, updated audience on new compression technologies and pointed out the significance of information and data obtained from testing and measurement of HD signals. Kucera also cited several case studies where proper monitoring and checking of such signals could be useful for maintenance of communication systems as they also acted as preventive and corrective measures. In his closing remarks, Felix Wong, Regional Field Marketing Manager (Asia Pacific) of Tektronix, expressed gratitude to Dr. Peter Chiu of IVE and Tony Ngai of SMPTE-HK Section for their support of the event.
